The 50-MW Baikonur solar power plant has been inaugurated in the Kyzylorda region in southern Kazakhstan, the press centre of the municipality announced on Monday.
The total investment in the project was KZT 23 billion (USD 65m/EUR 59m), according to the statement.
The launch of the solar park is a major step towards the development of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan and the transition to green technologies, mayor Kuanyshbek Iskakov stated.
The project was developed by Baikonur Solar LLP, a subsidiary of private-owned investment group United Green. It received joint financing of about USD 52.4 million ( EUR 47.6m) from the European Investment Bank (EBRD), the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 2018.
